Video of US Airways descent into Hudson River released

Today, the U.S. Coast Guard in partnership with the National Transportation Safety Board disclosed video footage taken by the Coast Guard documenting the moments when a U.S. Airways jetliner made an impromptu descent onto the chilly waters of the Hudson River on January 15, 2009. The area surrounding the downed aircraft, presently positioned at Battery Park City in New York, has been cordoned off by the Coast Guard as a safety precaution while recovery operations are underway. The picture showcases a distant view of the Hudson River where a plane rests on the surface near a cluster of small boats, with the city skyline forming a backdrop. Visible on the water are ripples possibly from the vessels nearby, hinting at the immediate aftermath of the water landing.
